The winning design offers a powerful response to one of the greatest challenges facing today\u2019s cities. How to ensure more high-quality green space, more shade, and a more pleasant living environment in an era of increasingly frequent summer heat waves. The significant expansion of green space and the thoughtful design of the central paved area are among the proposal\u2019s greatest strengths. <\/p>

<\/p>

The winning design also sensitively engages with the site\u2019s historical identity and builds on the urban planning principles that have been associated with the square since its inception. The jury appreciated that the design respects the significance of St. Wenceslas Church and the original compositional layout of the space, while at the same time developing them in a way that meets the needs of the modern city. <\/p>

Svatopluk \u010cech Square is not just a park, nor is it merely a transportation hub. Above all, it is an important public space designed to serve the people. The winning design offers a balanced combination of green and paved areas, places to relax, space for everyday life, and venues for larger social and cultural events.
